Abstract

The main contribution of this work is the explicit calculation of the qualitatively known tradeoff between coverage and capacity in CDMA systems. The analysis of the paper permits prediction of coverage for a projected capacity, for any given admission policy used to achieve that capacity. Furthermore, our approach allows us to arrive at a good approximation for pole capacity, defined to be the limit of the number of users a cell can support as the coverage shrinks to zero.
