Building "Above-Campus" Library Services

Paul N. Courant, John Wilkin

Research output: Contribution to journalArticle

Abstract

The authors reflect on the above the campus approach to library services in higher education. They cite the lessons to be learned from HathiTrust, a shared effort among research libraries that aim to aggregate resources and capitalize on the collective expertise of their institutions, in terms of collaboration. Economic pressures are identified as catalyst for changes to the scale of library collaboration. They assert that deep collaboration allows libraries to create and maintain a digital collection.
