It is a pleasure to dedicate this paper to Michael Fisher on the occasion of his 70th birthday, and to wish him many more happy and productive years of activity in physics. This work was supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. NSF-DMR-99-86199. I am grateful to Elliott Lieb for drawing my attention to ref. 12.

N2 - For a harmonically trapped dilute Bose gas with uniformly repulsive interactions which is assumed to satisfy a certain condition on the extensivity of fluctuations, I find on upper bound on the condensate fraction f. If BEC is defined by the condition that f > const. N-α, α.< 1/2, I argue that in the limit N → ∞, V0 → 0, NV 0 → const. where V0 is the space integral of the potential, the interactions cannot increase the critical temperature over that of the noninteracting gas.
