Abstract
Studies on intertextuality in the Italian chivalric production of the fifteenth and sixteenth century must face the problem of the so called «chivalric omniscience» (Tissoni). Chivalric omniscience is the phenomenon by which public and author participate in a constant game of memory, based on a shared knowledge of the texts. This paper presents examples of Boiardo’s use of the chivalric matter at different textual levels, with a concentration on the character of Bradamante, the warrior heroine who becomes the founder of the Este dynasty in the Inamoramento de Orlando.
