Abstract
The present note describes the numerical solution of the elliptic partial differential equations governing three dimensional fluid flow in strongly curved rectangular ducts by the use of a fully coupled block implicit solution algorithm. Calculations have been made for the configuration of Humphrey et al. It is observed that the coupled solution of the momentum and continuity equation converges rapidly and reduces the required computing time by a factor of two and a half over a decoupled solution such as that by Humphrey et al. The flowfield calculated here is in good agreement with the experimental data and with previous calculations. The flow separation on the outer side wall is well predicted, in conformity with earlier observations. (from author's abstract)
