Abstract

Presents six ideas that are important in making social change. Ideas include: the importance of intellectual history, especially a history of black studies; the continuing need to explore a common framework for the field of black studies; the interdisciplinarity of black studies; making the Pan-African connection; academic excellence and social responsibility; and unity without uniformity.
