Abstract

INSIGHT INTO THE CHARACTERISTICS OF SEDIMENT TRANSPORT AND PAVEMENT EVOLUITION IN GRAVEL STREAMS WAS GAINED BY MEANS OFA PHYSICAL MODEL OF A GRAVEL STREAN IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. THE RESULTS OF THE STUDY ALLOW FO THE QUANTIFICATION OF DIFFERENCES IN REYNOLDS NUMVER AND ROUGHNESS WHCH WERE NOT O COULD NOT BE SCALED BY MEANS OF FROUDE SIMILARITY. THE STUDYLEADS TO THE CONCLUSIONS THAT BEDLOAD TRANSPORT IN NATURAL GRAVEL STREAMS CAN BE SIMULATED IN THE LABORATORY AND THAT PROTOTYPE BEHAVIOR CAN BE PREDICTED FROM A LABORATORY DATA.
