Abstract
In designing equalizer circuits for optical transmission systems, the role of the shape of fiber baseband response assumes a dramatic importance. An investigation is carried out about the influence of the excitation conditions on the baseband response of near-optimum fibers. Different distributions of the optical launched power, in amplitude and delay, are taken into account in order to study the effects of various kinds of optical sources (LEDs or semiconductor lasers), and consequently their influence on equalizer circuit design.
