Abstract

• Increased demand for meat in the coming years must be met with improved efficiencies in livestock systems to reduce the environmental impact of meat production. This will require the use of technologies in livestock systems. • Barriers to the use of current technologies and development of new technologies exist but differ between developing and developed countries. • In developing countries, lack of education and economic resources, infrastructure, and access to marketplaces are barriers to technology implementation. • In developed countries, lack of consumer understanding of agriculture and the changing view of risk hampers the use of technologies in livestock production.
