Abstract

The rediscovery of Asprella cavailloni Fenaux (1942) is reported from madagascar. The species is closest to A. lynceus rather than to A. inscripta with which it had been previously synonymized. The teleoconch sutural ramps of A. lynceus and A. cavailloni have more numerous spirals (usual 5 or more spirals) than does A. inscripta or other related species of Asprella (usually fewer than 5 spirals). The ranges of A. cavailloni (Madagascar) and of A. lynceus (West Pacific to Thailand) are disjunct. Consequently the relationships between these two species need further study.
