Asphaltinoides incertae sedis, a new genus from the Devonian of Illinois ( USA).

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

The type section of the Grand Tower Limestone has yielded a new microproblematic taxon, Asphaltinoides grandtowerenses n.gen. and sp. It is described from thin sections and acetate peels and may have been a calcareous algae. It occurs only in pelmatozoan- bryozoan biomicrite facies where it encrusts the bryozoans, disarticulated brachiopod shells and crinoidal columnals. The associated fauna indicates well oxygenated, warm, shallow marine shelf environments. -after Author
