Abstract

The development of an artificial neural network (ANN) model to analyze jointed concrete slabs in aircraft and temperature loading was discussed. Various slab load locations, joint load transfer efficiencies, a range of airfield slab thickness, and subgrade supports were considered. The ANN model was found to give maximum bending stresses and maximum vertical deflections within an average error of 1.4%. It was also found that the principle of superposition was not valid for the addition of critical pavement responses obtained under gear loading.
