Arthropoda: Introduction to Crustacea and Hexapoda

R. Edward DeWalt, Vincent H. Resh

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

This chapter includes orders and families of Hexapoda (subclasses Insecta and Entognatha (Collembola)) in which one or more life stages are aquatic and adapted for survival under or on the water surface. Some license has been taken with Collembola to include most families that might be encountered near water. Not included are families of insects that live on or burrow into emergent aquatic vegetation, internal parasites of aquatic animals, and riparian families that are closely associated with water but do not inhabit it.
