Abstract
After a decade of debate regarding qualitative and quantitative research methods, the relative importance of the two methodologies has leveled off. Social work researchers seem to have reached the conclusion that there is room for both methodologies. In view of the recent publication of two books on qualitative methodologies in social work, this article reviews the methodological debate and argues that a third, integrated configuration may be needed to spur the exploration and application of qualitative research.
