Abstract
A new approach to the design of vibration isolation systems using nonlineariteis is introduced through a simple example of a three mass system. The method of harmonic balance is used to obtain the equations describing the motion on the nonlinear normal mode. The nonlinear mode is then tuned such that the energy transfer from the three mass system to its grounding structure is minimized.
