Abstract

Microwave (MW) heating is a highly promising alternative to conventional thermal processing technologies for lignocellulosic materials. This chapter discusses the theory of MW energy and its application in converting lignocellulosic biomass into biofuel and bioproducts. This includes both MW pretreatments and MW-assisted conversion of various biomass into biofuels. Key technical challenges and opportunities are presented with integrated technologies and innovative approaches.
