Abstract
The retail industry is one of the largest sectors of commerce worldwide and is the second largest in the U.S. both in the number of establishments and the number of employees. In the U.S. the retail trade presently generates about 3.8 trillion dollars in retail sales annually and accounts for about 12.9% of all business establishments (U.S. Census [42]).
