Abstract

An iterative multiresolution method based on finite elements for estimating the optical flow is presented and applied to video coding. The computed motion field is smooth and can be represented by a small number of finite-element coefficients. Preliminary simulation results are encouraging as good quality estimates are obtained for the Salesman sequence.
