Andreev bound states at the onset of phase coherence in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8

A study of Bi2212/CaF2/Ag planar tunnel junctions realized on crystallographic faces parallel to the c axis of Bi2212 single crystals was performed. Data show that the low energy excitation spectrum depends on the crystallographic orientation of the exposed surfaces of the sample, with a predominant ZBCP. The ZBCP appeared simultaneously with the establishment of the bulk superconducting phase coherence.
