Abstract
The basic idea of the method of lines is extended to analyze generalized shielded multiple dielectric planar transmission lines. The Helmholtz's equation is discretized in only one direction. The resultant differential-difference equation can be solved analytically. The recursive relation of electromagnetic fields in different dielectric regions is derived from which the generalized formulation for eigenmode dispersions is achieved. As examples, the dispersions of three types of finlines are computed. The numerical results show good agreement with those published in the literature.
