Abstract

Based on the foregoing discussions and results, only black carbon and MM measurements were further considered for this work. A total of twenty two (22) BAM samples from twelve (12) sites were analyzed for ions and black carbon. Filter spots from the selected days were punched out and stored in labeled petri dishes prior to further analysis. The area of the punched out filter spot was 0.528 cm2. Based on the diurnal profiles of the PM2.5 mass concentration, (between midnight on the start of the sampling day to the midnight ending on the sampling day) two spots were selected and used for BC measurements. In addition to this, three-hundred thirty six (336) 1-hour spots from the Hanford and Madera City monitoring were used to analyze for organic molecular markers. Analysis of the BC and ionic species measurements reveal that the mass concentration of ions, BC and UVBC in each site were likely underestimated. For example, species such as ammonium nitrate and ammonium sulfate were low in comparison to the measurements from the RAAS2.5-400 on the same day at Tranquillity site.
