Abstract

This chapter presents the text of an interview with David M. Raup, one of the most important theoretical paleontologists of his generation and a major architect of the paleobiological revolution. Raup discusses his background, interests, and influences and describes some of the major events in his career. He also describes his involvement in major debates over macroevolution and extinction throughout the 1970s and 1980s and his pioneering work in computer-based simulation and analysis of fossil data.
