Abstract

A new finite element technique for large-deformation frictional contact analysis based on the Eulerian-Lagrangian kinematic description is described. Both undeformed and deformed nodal coordinates are treated as unknowns, so the element mesh can adjust itself to changing contact zones during an analysis. The analysis method is applied to selected example problems, including geometric nonlinearity and stress singularities on the contact surface.
