Abstract
A method is described for easily recording neural activity from the central nervous system of a suspended cockroach while the animal can still walk, groom, and perform other acts. Recordings revealed that some giant fibre units are active during spontaneous walking. The preparation should be especially useful in further studies of the neural basis of behaviour.
