note = "Allelic isozyme synthesis has been used as an indicator of gene function in several groups of fish. Fishes in the Salmonidae711131{"} and the Poeciliidae23 have been used to investigate gene expression in interspecific hybrids. However, other families of freshwater fishes, such as the sunfishes (Centrarchidae) are particularly amenable to genetic and developmental analyses. Since interspecific hybrids are readily produced between sunfishes1!il01221-2s they partment of Zoology, University of Illinois, Urbana, Illinois 61801; Dr. Childers is affiliated with the Illinois Natural History Survey, Urbana.
