Abstract
The article profiles George Morgan, a merchant, land speculator and was the first Indian agent for the Ohio Valley whose life was forgotten due to questions about his loyalty. Topics discussed include how Morgan developed the so-called "homestead ethic" after dealing with local communities through his trading company, his early life being born into a wealthy family and his contribution to the development of Illinois.
