Aided Guidance System Based on GPS and Optical Encoders for Smart Sprayer

Abstract

A real time computer aided guidance system which is composed of GPS and two optical encoders has been developed to provide the operator with vehicle guidance aid During field operations the new system will display both local and global positions of the vehicle on a screen in the cab The operator can guide the vehicle to follow the planned route without a foam marker Especially when the vehicle moves around field boundaries for headland turns it is very helpful for operator to guide the vehicle to next path with the information shown on the screen Experiments have shown that the aided guidance system has a great potential to reduce the lateral errors to lighten operator s duty and to guarantee the quality of field operations.
