Aida, Aetos, and the Rosetta Stone

Abstract

In this article, the author discusses the development of Aida which an opera based on a scenario often attributed to French Egyptologist Auguste Mariette. He mentions the Rosetta Stone, an ancient Egyptian granodiorite stele, which contains Greek version about Greek deity including Hephaestus, Helios, and Zeus. He suggests that Mariette derived the name of the opera from Rosetta stone.
