Abstract

NASA, US, is making significant efforts, to deal with the issues of aeroacoustics throughout the agency. The main objective of the agency is, to focus its investment in assessing its noise prediction capability in a more effective manner. A number of NASA teams are engaged in assessing their internal codes, ranging from the empirical ANOPP, to fully unsteady prediction codes, such as CFL3D. The assessment effort has highlighted areas, where the agency needs to make significant improvements. Topics covered under the assessment program, include airframe noise, aircraft systems, engine systems, jet noise, fan noise, propulsion-airframe acoustics, and duct and liner systems. The agency has also focused on conducting investigations in the field of engine core noise sources in 2008.
