Abstract
Plant genomes are incredibly diverse and complex and hold the key to plants' extraordinary adaptability and resilience. In recent years, there has been a groundbreaking shift in plant genomics. We have moved from gene-level sequencing to the comprehensive reconstruction of entire plant genomes, from telomere-to-telomere. These developments have revolutionized our understanding of plant biology. In this chapter, we review recent breakthroughs in the assembly of complete telomere-to-telomere plant genomes, their significance, and their impact on various aspects of plant biology and agriculture. Finally, we discuss the implications for critical issues such as food security, environmental sustainability, and adaptation to climate change.
