Abstract
A method is presented for determining when an ac linear load flow algorithm may produce results for a system which has no real solution. The method is an extension of previous work limited to pure dc systems. The method uses rectangular coordinates to express the 2n-2 load flow equations of a n bus network so that only 2n-3 equations need to be linearized to obtain a direct solution. The existence (or nonexistence) of a solution to the last equation is used to predict an algorithm failure.
