Abstract

A derivative of the dipyridophenazine (DPPZ) ligand has been developed that changes both color and intensity of fluorescence upon exposure to lithium ion in solution. In nonpolar solvents, the green fluorescence of the ligand is shifted to yellow and enhanced upon addition of Li+; in polar solvents, the yellow fluorescence of the ligand is quenched and shifted to orange upon addition of Li+.
