Abstract
In this work, the examination of the distorted Nyquist plots of the frequency response functions of two interfering modes is carried out. With the frequency being restricted to close to the natural frequency of the "perturbed" mode, an analytic modeling of the distortions in the spacing of points in the resonance region caused by the presence of a closely spaced "perturbing" mode is carried out. In the sequence, a refined modal identification algorithm is developed that takes into account mode interference and leads to improved modal estimates compared with those obtained by existing methods. The limitations of the proposed algorithm are discussed and applications with theoretical and experimental data are given.
