title = "A statistical subgrid scale noise model: Formulation",
abstract = "Using a generalized acoustic analogy recently proposed by Goldstein, a subgrid scale noise model is proposed for large-eddy simulations of turbulent flows. An adjoint formulation of the model is given that relates near-field source statistics to far-field frequency spectra. The noise model and the full range-of-scales formulation is to be applied to a compressible, turbulent mixing layer for evaluation. Characteristics of the shear layer, including its far-field sound field, are presented and a typical adjoint field is presented and discussed.",
