Abstract

During the preparations to host the 2005 Midwest Archaeological Conference (MAC) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), I had the opportunity to peruse some of the documents that reference the joint origins of the MAC and the Illinois Archaeological Survey. It seemed it might be appropriate as we celebrate the fortieth anniversary of the founding of MAC’s premier journal, the Mid-continental Journal of Archaeology to briefly revisit our origins. (All the documents referenced below are from the archives of the Illinois State Archaeological Survey, Prairie Research Institute, UIUC.).
