Abstract

The conductance observed for single proton channels formed by proteolipids of ATPase (Schindler and Nelson 1982) is rationalized in terms of a hydrogen bonded network model. A simple algebraic expression for the resistance predicted for such a model is presented and the results are compared to the experimental observations. The comparision suggests that the conduction involves a series of bound water molecules and perhaps amino acid side groups.
