Abstract

We present a methodology to design structures with fixed-width and fixed-thickness beams using continuum-based topology optimization. The proposed methodology projects the geometry of rectangular bars onto the analysis grid, whereby each bar is parameterized by its end points, which are the design variables for the optimization. We present a simple short cantilever beam example that demonstrates the methodology.
