Abstract

From the temperature‐dependent HPLC retention of a guest or host on a chemically bonded stationary phase containing the complementary component (as shown schematically on the right), the complexation enthalpies of a series of hydrogen‐bonded host‐guest complexes can be rapidly and conveniently determined. The ΔH̊ values determined in this way agree within experimental error with the complexation enthalpies measured in free solution by traditional methods. (Figure Presented.)
