Abstract
Two dimensional (2-D) elliptic infinite elements were formulated and implemented for the finite element analysis of 2-D time harmonic electromagnetic scattering. Their performance was studied by comparing with the finite element solution using conventional absorbing boundary conditions (ABC). An elliptical contour called infinite element surface to completely enclose the cylinder was introduced to solve the boundary-value problem. Numerical results were discussed to demonstrate that the new type of infinite elements is indeed more accurate than both the first- and second-order ABCs.
