It is an honor and joy to be the Editor of A. C. Littleton's final accounting manuscript. The journey of editing this manuscript into a book began in 2014, and the final product would not have been possible without the assistance of several individuals and organizations. Foremost, I would like to thank Gary J. Previts for believing in this project as the Series Editor of Emerald's Studies in the Development of Accounting Thought. I cannot think of a more fitting home for this manuscript. I would also like to thank Stephen A. Zeff for early directions on the project and Bill Black for his assistance in proofing the final draft. Finally, I would like to thank Littleton's grandchildren as well as the American Accounting Association, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Illinois CPA Society, and the Vernon K. Zimmerman Center for International Education and Research in Accounting at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for kindly granting me the necessary copyright permission of the material contained in this book. I am also grateful for the funding provided by the Ivey Business School and the University of Western Ontario.
