Abstract

The phase noise of ring oscillator-based frequency synthesizers is limited by jitter accumulation. In this paper, we present a synthesizer architecture that uses a low noise passive multi-phase generator and digital background calibration to synthesize a 245fsrsm 5GHz output from a 54MHz crystal oscillator while consuming only 8.2 mW.
