A 10Gb/s MLSE-based electronic-dispersion-compensation IC with fast power-transient management for WDM Add/drop networks

Abstract

A 10Gb/s MLSE RX with fast power-transient management for optical add/drop multiplexer-based WDM networks is presented. The RX has a VGA with a fast AGC and a high-bandwidth offset-cancellation loop. Measured results indicate that the RX tolerates a 10dB/10μs optical-power transient with 72 consecutive identical digits with no BER impact, and offers a 100× improvement over a standard CDR in tracking an 8dB sinusoidal power transient at a BER of 10 -4.
