Abstract
The 29th International Conference on advanced ceramics and composites held in conjunction with the Electronic Division of the American Ceramic Society is presented. An underlying theme for the Conference is 'Interdisciplinary Cross-fertilization' , along with exploration of topical research areas aimed at addressing current and future problems. Reliability of ceramic and composite components as well as friction in ceramic composites are featured subsets of topics related to mechanical properties and operation of ceramic systems. Bioceramics and bioscopes systems are a topical, growing and important research area, and the focus of an international symposium. .
