Abstract
The differences in the design of Gigabit Ethernet and 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10-GbE) transceivers were highlighted and choice of the receivers based on hardware configuration was discussed. Optoelectronic transceivers for Gigabit ethernet have more functionality and incorporate additional portions of the physical layer. The increase in complexity is caused due to high speed requirements of 10 GbE. Ethernet was stated to be versatile protocol for high-bandwidth communication.
