Professional Information
Mari Altshuler aims to support children, their teachers, and their families in seeing themselves as capable math learners and thinkers with important mathematical ideas. Her research with young students, preservice teachers, and inservice teachers is centered on the belief that every person has the right to mathematical experiences in schools that lead them to develop a positive, empowered relationship with mathematics. Dr. Altshuler is invested in building partnerships between the University of Illinois and local elementary schools that support ambitious math teaching and learning, and she loves creating excitement for teaching mathematics in soon-to-be early childhood and elementary school teachers. Previously, Dr. Altshuler taught Kindergarten through third grade in Chicago and Houston Public Schools.
