Fabián A. Araneda Baltierra is a Research Software Engineer at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. His work focuses on data analysis, software engineering, and the development of scalable computing solutions for astrophysical surveys and multi-messenger astronomy.
With expertise in Python, Kubernetes, Terraform, InfluxDB, and Grafana, he has led the development and deployment of robust data pipelines, enabling real-time analytics for large-scale scientific collaborations. His recent projects include leveraging large language models and vector databases to enhance data accessibility within the Rubin Observatory’s LSST project, where he has developed experimental AI-powered tools for knowledge management and coding assistance.
Beyond research, Fabián is deeply committed to education and diversity in computing. He has taught programming, data science, and technology courses at multiple institutions. As a former Executive Director of an affirmative action program, he led initiatives to expand access to higher education for underrepresented and underserved students in Chile, a mission that continues to shape his work in academia.
Fabián’s research and professional interests span computational data analysis, software development, data visualization, machine learning, and computing education.
