Organization profile

The Center for Social & Behavioral Science (CSBS) brings together the breadth of expertise in social behavioral science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to address some of society’s most pressing challenges. CSBS fosters innovative social behavioral research across disciplines at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, enhances the ecosystem for social behavioral scientists on our campus, and supports public engagement at the local, state, national, and international level to enhance the societal impact of social behavioral research.

In particular, the CSBS focuses on three grand challenges: inequity and poverty, social and behavioral health, and digital revolution. Since these grand challenges cut across many disciplines, the CSBS fosters interdisciplinary research teams that harness the complementary strengths of the social and behavioral science Illinois faculty.

The Elsevier Fingerprint Engine mines the text of the experts' scholarly documents – publication abstracts, awards, project summaries, patents, and other sources – to create an index of weighted terms which defines the text, known as a Fingerprint. By aggregating and comparing Fingerprints, the Elsevier Fingerprint Engine enables users to look beyond metadata and expose valuable connections among people, research units, publications, and ideas.
