Organization profile

The Center for Global Studies (CGS) globalizes the research, teaching, and outreach missions of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The Center is a National Research Center in Global Studies designated by the U.S. Department of Education. Our mission aims to promote and support innovative research to better understand global issues confronting the world’s populations and identify ways to cope with and resolve these challenges. CGS has over 350 faculty affiliates whose work promotes cross-unit and interdisciplinary research and instruction.

CGS organizes the complex dimensions of global studies, research, teaching, and outreach into four Clusters of Excellence that bridge disciplines, regions, and professions:

  • Global Health
  • Global Society & Sustainable Development
  • Global Knowledge (Education/Library/Informatics/Media)
  • Global Governance (Security/Law/Human Rights)

Highlighted by CGS, the four clusters of excellence build global studies expertise, available to government and non-government decision-makers in key policy areas.

Please see IDEALS for our collections of research output.

Fingerprint

The Elsevier Fingerprint Engine mines the text of the experts' scholarly documents – publication abstracts, awards, project summaries, patents, and other sources – to create an index of weighted terms which defines the text, known as a Fingerprint. By aggregating and comparing Fingerprints, the Elsevier Fingerprint Engine enables users to look beyond metadata and expose valuable connections among people, research units, publications, and ideas.
