Data for: Cooling Largemouth Bass Micropterus nigricans during simulated livewell holding increases physiological change and prolongs recovery

Dataset

Description

Data weregenerated from juvenile Largemouth Bass (Micropterus nigricans) acclimated to one of three different temperatures (15°C, 10-20°C, or 25°C) for two weeks. Afterwards two experiments took place, one in which fish were exercised, air exposed and put into static respirometry equipment to quantify metabolic recovery profiles generating maximum metabolic rate, standard metabolic rate, aerobic scope, factorial aerobic scope and time to metabolic recovery to routine metabolic rate for fish that did not experience any thermal change, and fish that experienced a 5 hour period of reduced temperature (5°C cooler than acclimation) and then warmed back to acclimation temperature to simulate a capture, livewell holding, and release tournament scenario. The second experiment fish also underwent exercise and air exposure, but then were placed into a shuttle box system to determine thermal preference by median temperature occupied.
